Working Principle And Application of Welding Rotator

The welding rotator is a device that drives the cylindrical weldment to rotate by means of the friction between the weldment and the active roller.

The transmission device to drive the active wheel, using the active roller and the friction between the cylindrical workpiece driven by the rotation of the workpiece to achieve change, the horizontal position of the workpiece can be achieved inside and outside the ring seams and longitudinal seam welding, automatic welding equipment can realize automatic welding.

I. The basic structure of the welding rotator

The welding rotator is composed of an active frame and a driven frame. It does not need to make an installation foundation and is easy to move. It can be used directly on the workshop floor.

The main and driven frames adopt section steel plate structure brackets, which have good comprehensive performance and large bearing capacity. The base of the rotator is treated with stress relief after welding to ensure long-term use without deformation.

There are four rollers on the main frame and the driven frame respectively, and the four rollers on the active frame are all synchronous driving wheels. The rollers are installed in the side panel assembly. The roller adopts an integral roller, and the surface of the roller is inlaid with vulcanized rubber, which not only meets the ability to carry the workpiece, but also protects the workpiece. The vulcanized rubber of the roller is made by a special vulcanization process, which has a large bearing capacity, good wear resistance, anti-aging, and is not easy to degumming.

The swing arm of the self-aligning rotator is adaptive to workpieces of different diameters. The rotary shaft of the roller assembly clamp frame has strong rigidity. When the workpiece is placed on the roller assembly, the good clearance between the rotary shaft and its shaft hole can ensure that the clamp frame can be opened at an appropriate angle with the workpiece.

Each shaft hole of the main and driven frame is processed by a card boring machine at one time, and the parallelism of each axis is good and the amount of movement is small. The roller assembly is installed with high-quality bearings produced by well-known domestic manufacturers. The grease used in the bearing is lithium-based grease, which has high lubricating performance.

The four rollers of the active frame are fully meshed, and the transmission gear and the drive reducer are connected as a “cross” coupling. The use of this coupling is reliable in transmission, and the transmitted torque is large. Axiality is compensated appropriately.

All transmission gears are made of high-quality steel, and the teeth of the live gears are surface quenched, which has high hardness and wear resistance, and can ensure long-term use without changing gears. On the outside of the transmission gear, a gear guard is installed.

The welding rotator is driven by a worm gear reducer. The selected reducer and motor have high synchronous performance, so that the rollers on the rotator run synchronously. In addition, it can avoid the impact force of the reverse operation of the clamp frame on the reducer when placing the workpiece, which can effectively prevent the possible early damage of the reducer, so that the reducer and the motor have a long service life.


II. How does the welding rotator work?

The operating mode of the welding rotator is quite simple.

As an auxiliary equipment for welding, the welding rotator rotates cylindrical workpieces through rotation. When facing heavier workpieces, the welder does not need to move the position, because the welding rotator will rotate for them, helping them to complete the work more easily.

The whole rotator has strong rigidity and stability, beautiful appearance, reliable performance, simple maintenance and long service life. When working, the transmission device drives the active roller, and the friction between the active roller and the cylindrical workpiece is used to drive the workpiece to rotate to realize the displacement, which can realize the horizontal position welding of the inner and outer circumferential seams and the inner and outer longitudinal seams of the workpiece.
