Performance Requirements of Welding Robot

Welding manipulator was first used only in spot welding. In the early 1980s, with the development of computer technology and sensor technology, arc welding robots were gradually popularized. The fierce competition in the market has made the welding automation special machines used for medium and large-scale production unable to adapt to the small-scale and multi-variety production model. They have been gradually replaced by flexible welding robots. One of the largest fields of application, welding manipulator China has been widely used in automobiles, motorcycles, construction machinery, and other fields. Of the more than 800,000 industrial robots currently in the world, more than 40% of them are used for welding.

Main considerations for robot welding

1. Must teach

Before the robot performs automatic welding, the operator must teach the robot welding gun's trajectory and set welding conditions.

Because it must be taught, the robot is not suitable for welding products of many varieties and small quantities.

2. The accuracy of the workpiece must be ensured

The manipulator has no eyes and can only repeat the same movement.

The trajectory accuracy of the manipulator is ± 0.1mm, and the same action is repeated with this accuracy.

If the welding deviation is greater than the welding wire radius, the welding may not be good, so the workpiece accuracy should be kept within the welding wire radius.

3. The setting of welding conditions depends on the skill level of the teaching staff

The operator must input welding procedures, welding gun attitude, and angle, current, voltage, speed, and other welding conditions when teaching.

Teaching operators must fully grasp welding knowledge and welding skills.

4. Must pay full attention to safety

The manipulator is a high-speed sports equipment, and it is absolutely not allowed to approach the robot when it is running automatically (a safety barrier must be set up).

The operator must receive special education on labor safety, otherwise, the operation is not allowed.

Performance requirements of arc welding robots

In the arc welding operation, the welding gun is required to track the movement of the workpiece bead and continuously fill the metal to form the weld, so the stability of the speed and the accuracy of the track during the movement are two important indicators.

Under normal circumstances, the welding speed can be taken from 5 to 50mm / s, and the tracking accuracy can be taken from ± 0.2 to 0.5mm. Since the attitude of the welding torch also has a certain influence on the quality of the weld seam, it is hoped that while the weld bead is traced, the adjustable range of the welding torch attitude is as large as possible, and there are other performance requirements, such as the swing function, welding sensor (starting point detection Weld seam tracking) interface function, welding gun anti-collision function, etc.

Swing function. The setting of swing frequency, swing amplitude, and swing type.

Welding sensor. Interface function of starting point detection and welding seam tracking sensor.

Welding gun anti-collision function. When the welding gun is subjected to abnormal resistance, the robot stops to avoid damage to the operator and tools.

Multi-layer welding function. The application of this function can realize the automatic programming of the remaining layers after the welding teaching of the first layer is completed.

Restart arc function. After the arc start fails, it will automatically retry. Therefore, the operation interruption caused by the occurrence of welding abnormality (failure to start the arc) is eliminated, and the full-line stoppage caused by it is avoided to the greatest extent.

Welding gun correction function. When the welding torch collides with the workpiece, it can be corrected by a simple operation.

Sticky wire automatic release function. If the welding wire is detected at the end of welding, it will be automatically re-energized to release the bonding wire, so there is no need to manually cut the welding wire.

Arc restart function. When an arc break occurs, the robot will return to re-start arc welding according to the specified lap amount. Therefore, no repair welding operation is required.
