2. Selection of welding positioner for structural parts

(1) Select the appropriate welding positioner according to the characteristics of the welding structure  

For example, the rear axle box of the bulldozer and the X frame of the excavator can be used with the L-shaped double-rotation welding positioner, the bulldozer frame can be used with the roller frame type welding positioner, and the excavator bucket welding positioner can be designed as a C-type double-rotating type, The excavating boom can be used with a double column single rotary positioner.

(2) Selection according to the situation of the manual welding operation 

The selected welding positioner can turn any welding seam of the welded workpiece to the flat welding or ship welding position, avoiding vertical welding and overhead welding, and ensuring welding quality.

(3) Selection according to operation needs 

Choose a welding positioner with good openness, easy operation, compact structure, and small footprint, and the operator's operating height should be as low as possible, safe, and reliable. The tooling design should consider the simple and convenient workpiece clamping.

(4) Selection of large structural parts

The welding operation height of the positioner for large welding structural parts of construction machinery is very high, and workers can perform welding by means of pad height. It can also be equipped with a hydraulic lifting platform to facilitate welding at different heights.

(1) Double column single rotary welding positioner 

This type of positioner is suitable for welding rectangular structural parts of construction machinery such as excavating booms and roller frames. Its main feature is that one end of the column is driven by a motor to drive the working device in a rotation direction, and the other end is driven by the active end. The columns on both sides can be designed to be liftable to adapt to products of different specifications. The disadvantage of this kind of positioner can only be rotated in one circumferential direction. When selecting, pay attention to whether the weld form is suitable.

(2) Two-seater head and tail double-rotation welding positioner

Compared with the first type of positioner, the welded structure adds another degree of freedom of rotation in another space. This type of positioner has a large welding space, the workpiece can be rotated to the required position, and the design is advanced. It has been successfully used in many construction machinery manufacturers.

(3) L-type double rotary welding positioner

The working device of this kind of positioner is L-shaped, with two degrees of freedom of rotation, and both directions can be rotated at ±360°. Compared with other types of positioners, this positioner has good openness and is easy to operate. Figure 3 shows the successful use of the L-type double-rotation welding positioner in the welding of the rear axle box of the bulldozer, and the effect is very good, which is well received by the on-site operators.

(4) Type C double rotary welding positioner

The C-type rotary form is the same as the L-type machine, just to facilitate the specific design of the clamp. According to the shape of the structure, the working device of the positioner is slightly changed. This type of welding positioner is suitable for welding buckets of loaders and excavators.

4. The development trend of China welding positioner

The welding of large-scale structural parts abroad generally uses manipulators. From the current domestic process status and equipment input, the conditions for completely replacing manual welding operations with welding robots are still immature. However, if there is no welding positioner, it is impossible for some vertical welds and overhead welds in complex structural parts to be adjusted to the position of flat welding or ship welding that is easy to weld.
